One of the most common questions we receive at eStudio ViCa is: What should we wear for our newborn photography? Your outfits play a key role in creating the soft, elegant, and timeless images we’re known for. In this guide, we’ll walk you through outfit tips for mums, dads, and siblings — so you feel confident, comfortable, and photo-ready.
1. Start with a Soft Color Palette
We recommend soft, neutral hues such as cream, beige, taupe, light grey, dusty pink, or muted pastels. These tones photograph beautifully and keep the focus on your baby while blending harmoniously with our signature studio backdrops and wraps.
✨ Avoid overly bright colours, bold patterns, or large logos — they can distract from the tender, emotional moments we aim to capture.
2. Coordinated, Not Matching
Instead of dressing everyone in the exact same colour, choose a harmonious colour palette and mix tones and textures within that range. For example, mum can wear a cream dress, dad in a light grey shirt and beige pants, and siblings in pastel-toned outfits. This creates a cohesive and balanced look without feeling too uniform.
3. Keep It Comfortable
It’s important to feel like yourselves. Choose outfits that are comfortable and make you feel good. Soft fabrics like cotton, linen, and knitwear look lovely on camera and allow freedom of movement, especially helpful when cuddling or holding baby.
4. Mum’s Outfit Tips
Choose something that makes you feel both beautiful and comfortable. Flowing dresses, wrap tops, or loose blouses in light fabrics like cotton or linen work wonderfully. Soft textures like lace or knits add a lovely touch without overpowering the image.
👩🍼 We also provide optional wardrobe guidance or light styling if needed — just let us know!
5. Dad’s Outfit Tips
Simple and classic works best. A light-coloured shirt or a knit sweater in beige, off-white, or soft grey pairs beautifully with neutral trousers or jeans. Avoid dark black or very bold colours as they can create too much contrast with baby’s delicate tones.
👔 Rolled sleeves or an open collar gives a relaxed, natural feel.
6. Siblings’ Outfit Tips
For big brothers and sisters, choose soft, comfy outfits in similar tones to the rest of the family. Dresses for girls or simple linen sets for boys work well. Avoid characters, graphics, or bold stripes.
💡 If your little one is unsure about the camera, we’ll gently ease them in with patience and play.
7. Don’t Worry About Baby’s Outfit – We’ve Got It Covered
During the main session, your baby will be gently wrapped in soft, beautiful fabrics that match your family’s outfit and our studio’s aesthetic. This not only creates our signature timeless look but also helps your baby feel secure and comfortable — especially for sibling poses, where the wrap makes it easier and safer for older siblings to hold the baby.
👶 If you have a special outfit you'd like your baby to wear, we can plan to include it towards the end of the session, depending on your baby's mood and how things go with siblings. As always, we follow a baby-led approach and prioritize comfort at all times.
8. Studio Comfort Tips
Our studio is cozy and temperature-controlled, so you won’t need heavy layers. We also offer a baby-friendly environment with a nursing area, changing station, and baby warmer, so everyone stays relaxed and comfortable.
Final Note: You Don’t Have to Overthink It
We’re here to help you every step of the way. After you book, we’re happy to advise on your wardrobe choices or even review options if you’d like to send us photos. Our goal is to make sure your family looks beautifully cohesive while keeping things easy and stress-free for you.
